Trillions for National Health Care Scares me. Here’s why:
Friends:I’ve spoken to some of you about the out-of-control spending in Washington, and more specifically about how we are becoming desensitized to the term “trillion dollars.” This term is thrown around so much in Washington these days that it doesn’t sound like a whole lot of money, and a 100 billion dollars sounds comparatively like a drop in the ocean. Attached is a copy of a web site that describes graphically (i.e. with visuals) how much a trillion dollars really is. It’s pretty amazing.
When you look at it, just think about the fact that studies show the Medicare program has $13 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities based on the aging of the baby boomers (and their concomitant need for more healthcare). That’s before ANY OTHER proposed or already-implemented spending such as nationalized healthcare, the TARP bailouts, the recently enacted-stimulus package (using the term “stimulus” loosely, it should be called a “spending” or “pork” package), defense spending, and social security. Simply put, this country is on the verge of financial ruin sooner rather than later.
This past 4th of July weekend, I thought about:
- How good we have it here in this country and how fortunate we are to live here;
- The principles that made our country so great and prosperous;
- How short of time we’ve been a country (compare us to the Roman empire or any of the Chinese dynasties); and
- How very, very, very short of time it is taking to put us on this path to financial ruin.
While many of these programs were done with good intentions (FDR’s New Deal, LBJ’s Great Society, Bush’s Medicare expansion and now the current administration and congress‘ economic policies) the lasting effect is adding up to disaster. Make no mistake: This is a crisis.
For once in my life, I am fearful for my country’s future. While I try to be sensitive and sometimes avoid discussing politics in “politically mixed company,” I have decided that there is too much at stake. If you agree, please join me in contacting your Congressman and U.S. Senators (even if you don’t think it will help).
Also, since this administration has proven they are extremely sensitive to polls and public opinion, we need to inform and turn public opinion about the policies that are now being pursued (namely socialized medicine – if this passes, this will be the first time where government will require/force all Americans to look to government for an answer to something so essential in our daily lives. It will be a turning point in the mindset of America.) So along with emails, consider writing letters to the editor of your local newspapers. Elected officials and their staff read these religiously!
To those who disagree, please know that I am writing this with the simple motivation that I truly care about our country’s future and cannot stand by without doing my part. Feel free to delete this, pass this forward or disprove me. Just know that I’m not sending this for the sole purpose of “slamming our leaders.” That’s not my intentions. I believe most of them are fine people who I would probably enjoy celebrating 4th of July with. However, I simply think they are making long-term bad decisions in order to get a short-term political fix.
Respectfully submitted,

P.S., You may recall when Senator John Thune delivered his “stack of a trillion bills” presentation to the Senate. I added that video to my Youtube Channel playlist.
John Dowless: Letter to Editor, Orlando Sentinel: Regarding Sunrail
When it comes to SunRail, Sentinel columnist Scott Maxwell is right on the money (”Friendly Advice for SunRail’s boosters: Get real,” http://tinyurl.com/MaxwellSunrail). I, too, support commuter rail, but not at any cost and not with the continued wasteful spending I keep reading about.
I can’t tell you how disgusted I was when I read in December that the Central Florida Commuter Rail Commission spent more than $300,000 just to come up with a name and a logo. Does $300,000 sound excessive to anyone else?
Someone at the rail commission must have been embarrassed as well, evidenced by the timing of the release of that information — days before Christmas, when few were paying attention. A naming contest like the one LYNX conducted would have accomplished the same thing, involved the community and cost a lot less.
SunRail leaders need to stop the wasteful spending or their majority support is going to erode quickly into the minority

Dowless quoted in Politico article on Cretul vs. Grayson
Check out this article from Politico , regarding the the possibility of a Florida State House Speaker Larry Cretul challenging Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson.
With several experienced and well-known candidates also mulling over campaigns, national Republicans aren’t expected to attempt to clear the field for Cretul.
“There’s no question his biggest challenge is the part of the district he’s from. He’s got a geographic challenge more than anything, said Florida Republican consultant John Dowless.The base of the vote in the general is from Orange County, and I think they have to give him enough of the vote to pull him over the top.”

Obama Administration, Trickle-Down Corruption, The Real Scandal
2009 Leave a Comment
Trickle-Down Corruption, The real scandal by Jonah Goldberg is a MUST READ!
Whether it’s tough economic times, busy schedules or just indifference, America is turning the blind eye and the deaf ear the Obama Administration needs to allow them to exercise more power than any Presidency in our history.
This is no exhaggeration. Obama will soon increase the number of his “czars” over our car and banking industries to include our healthcare and retirement. If the thought of this does not alarm you, America may be too far down the road to European Socialism than even I want to admit.
